Beat the cold weather blues

Beat the cold weather blues

It’s that time of year again. The thermometer is dipping, clouds are rolling in, and soon it will be raining every day. For many of us, this change in weather makes it very easy to want to simply cuddle up on the couch, eat something sugary. Yet while this may feel good for the time being, it will have an effect on our energy, motivation, and well-being. Here are three simple ways to combat that winter laziness.

1. Get out and move!
Yes, it is cold and windy, and moving from your spot by the fire seems like a ridiculous idea, but if you bundle up, throw on some comfy boots and take a walk around the neighborhood, your mood will thank you for it. If it truly is an absolutely disgusting day outside, put on your favorite playlist and turn it up! Get your heart rate up by grooving to tunes while cleaning your room. Whatever it is, help yourself by moving somehow each day. If you can get yourself to the gym, even better, and more power to you!
2. Treat your body well and get the right nutrition.
The holidays are a death trap for not eating right. With all the parties and their goodies, it can be hard to stay on track. While it would be absolutely cruel to deprive yourself of all the delicious food this time of year has to offer, remember one key word: moderation. There is no need to gorge yourself like it’s your last day on earth. Fill your body with energy enhancing foods. Whole grains, fish, nuts, and deep green leafy vegetables will leave you feeling unstoppable instead of unmovable like the starchy sugary foods of this season.

3. Surround yourself with positive people.
One of the best ways to keep your spirits high is to keep happy, positive, people close. Now is the time to spend time with your parents, your biggest fans, or your friends who always have a sunny attitude. Are you spending time with people who have your back and pump you up or those who bring you down? It’s hard to be a grump with laughter and positivity present. 🙂
